Glad for 2010!!!

Looking back I can't believe it's been since July that I have written on my blog. I really need to try to do better don't I. Let me try to recap what has happened since then.

My son started 8th grade. He has had a hard time with his school work this year. I forgot how hard it can be to have 7 classes. He was put in a dance class which he loved. He did a Christmas dance concert. I loved it. I even helped out as a chaperon during the performance they did for the school. I really don't like Junior High kids. They don't listen to you at all. I really respect the teachers that are able to handle the kids. He also was in football again this year. My husband was his coach again too. I lived and breathed football from the end of July to the middle of November. They won 2 games but were close on all but one game. Now it's starting baseball season. He wants to try out for the 8th grade team that plays for the high school. I hope he makes it. He is such a great baseball player.

My daughter started 5th grade. She has grown up way too fast this year. I won't go into details since she would kill me, but needless to say she has turned into a little woman and I'm not ready for hit. Her best friend moved during Thanksgiving break, which she has had a hard time with it. I'm hoping she will decide to start hanging out with her other friends before she drives me crazy.

My hubby and I have both been busy working and helping kids with their school work. In September, hubby's step-grandfather passed away from a heart attack. He was very sick and dieing, but it was still quite a shock He was in his late 70's. He was such a fun loving, full of life man and will be dearly missed.

In October my brother Glen was killed in a car crash in Florida. He was driving with a friend and her 5 year old son. My brother was dead at the scene, and his friend and her son were both in the hospital in critical condition. I found out the boy died 2 weeks later. I was absolutely devastated. We had become best friends in the last 2 years. We would talk a couple times a week while driving home from work. I was soo grateful he was able to come out to the reunion in July. My family is pretty big so we all couldn't make it to his funeral in Florida, so we did a memorial here in Utah. It was nice to see all my brothers and sister. My one sister couldn't make it she caught pneumonia. It would have been better if she could have made it. I'm still trying to come to grips with losing him, but it's getting a little bit better.

So far 2010 has been pretty great. Nothing bad has happened, knock on wood. Too many deaths from family and family's family last year. I'm claiming this year to be "death free". Lets hope it stays that way.

Well, that's all for now. I'm going to try to keep up on this but don't hold your breath.

I can't believe how much fun I had at my Ashby Family Reunion! I love my family sooo much. I had my oldest bro Rich and his family here. My other bro Glen and his daughter from Florida came, my parents from Idaho and my sister from Idaho, and my last bro Shawn and families were all here. We were missing 2 siblings. Gary and Jenny, which put a little damper on it for me because I would have loved to have everyone here, but life never works the way you want it to.

The BBQ at my house was a great time. It was the first night that everyone got here so it wasn't a late night. My awesome aunt Jan and cousins Amy and Tacee came. I love you guys!!! My gorgeous husband bbq'd chicken souvlaki...which was delish.

Lagoon was a lot of fun. The older kids all hung out together all day long. I only saw them 3 times the whole time. I think the fan favorite ride was Rattlesnake Rapids. The little girls kept begging to go on it and we went at least twice.

Shawn's house was a lot of fun. They had some games and the tramp which all the kids loved. Of course the pictures were fun. I think of few of the guys wanted to break all the camera's, but we have some good pics.

Okay, so apparently it's been a while since I have posted anything. I have been busy and tired. I'm not like my cousins who are having babies and I'm not like others who have more than 2 kids. So, I would have to say my excuse would be I've been spending time with my family and staying off the Internet.

We are starting Baseball season. My boy is in a the Prep League and this one is new so as "Team Mom" I'm in charge of getting uniforms. It's not as easy as you might think. I have a great co-team mom who knows what she is doing. We ordered our pants online and they still aren't hear. Our first game is on Monday........ I hope that the boys have something to wear.

My wonderful husband is the coach for my son. This is his 4th year and I would love to be able to watch just one game with him. Oh well!!!

My daughter is playing softball again this year. This will be her 3rd year. I'm pretty sure if you have a question about either I might know the answer. I'm turning into a fan that's for sure.

School, that's another issues all together. My girl is doing great with A's and one B. My son on the other hand is in 7th and for some reason can't remember to turn in his assignments. Why is it that every 13 year old boy can't seem to turn in assignments? Please tell me it gets better?

It's Going To Be A Long Week.

I'm sitting here in bed feeling like I'm dying from my head cold. I hate that someone from my hubbies work shared with him and of course I got it. I hope I don't get Bronchitis like hubby did.

I had a pretty ruff weekend. Not only did this cold start, but my cat scratched my arm pretty good. He is stuck in the house because he thinks he is a bad ass cat and gets into fights. He has a wound on his leg and can't go outside until its better. Since Saturday was so beautiful we were outside and brought the cat out, only he had to stay in his carrier. We were barbecuing chicken and all the neighborhood kids were out too. Of course one of the little boys let out the cat. My poor girl comes in crying that the cat is out. So, Super Mom that I am I go and get him. I picked him up and got his hurt paw and he scratched my arm everywhere. For those of you that know I worked for the Instacare I know how bad they can be, so I went there to get checked out. The Dr told me 80% of cat scratches and bites get infected and you need IV Therapy. it's not fun. So, now I'm on antibiotics with a sore arm, my head is so congested my teeth hurt, and i have no energy to do anything. What a way to start the week.

FIRST KISS!

My 13 yo son has his first official Girlfriend. Luckily he has told me about her. Anyway, he told me on Monday that he was going to kiss her. My heart came up into my throat. He isn't old enough to do that!!! He doesn't like to tell me everything that is going on in his life, so I have to play it cool with him and not freak out. You don't know how hard that was. So, he tells me that on Wednesday he finally kissed her. I asked him where and when and he actually told me. It was after school they were going to the bus. She rides a different bus. He said they just leaned into each other and kissed. It was just a peck. My husband asked him "did you use your tongue?" and was told "no". He said "that's good because I won't even kiss your mom with the tongue that is gross!!" I sure hope he remembers that. So now it's official, I have a regular teenager. I feel old.

You Can't Escape Haircut Monday

My Hubby has been teasing the kids for the past 3 weeks that he is taking them to get their hair cut. Neither of them want it cut. My son wants to grow it out so it can lay flat and in his face. The only problem is his hair is this and course and looks like a sheeps butt when it grows out. My hubby was off today so he took them in. He says they didn't want to get out of the car at first, but alas they went in. I must admit that my son is pretty good looking. I like it when his hair is trimmed, he looks very handsome.

My daughter has been fighting to keep her hair long for a while. She wrote on our chalk board in the kitchen that "I love my hair and I don't want it cut." Of course her dad then writes on it yesterday, "Haircut Sunday" which she responds by writting above it, "No Haircut Sunday!".

Well, as you can guess she was not happy at all. But I think you will agree that her dad did good by not chopping it off and I think she looks pretty cute. She just needs to take care of it and we will be fine.

Home Repair

Ok, on New Years Eve, we went to some friends houses with the kids. Since it was so cold, we decided to be nice and let our dog "Bubba" stay in the house so she could stay warm. We made sure all the doors were closed and things were picked up so she wouldn't eat anything and went on our way.

We got home about 1am. We were pretty tired looking forward to going to bed. The kids go downstairs to go to their rooms, and quess what they found.

The dog had gotten scared from Fireworks someone in the neighborhood had done and wanted to get into the basement, so she dug up ALL the carpet at the bottom of the stiars. I couldn't believe it!!!

Well, needless to say we had to fix it. My hubby does a pretty good job of home improvement. I know he would rather have someone else do it for him. We came up with a pretty good plan. We put tile at the bottom. He did a great job. I may not be an expert, but he made it look like we hired someone to do it.
